An Exceptional ‘Terroir’

Champagne wines owe their inimitable character to a unique combination of climate and soil composition, otherwise referred to as ‘terroir’.

With its northern geographical position at the limit of the vine’s cultural zone, the climate is harsh, softened only by an oceanic influence. The chalky sub-soil naturally provides the vine with constant irrigation. The vines’ position on the slopes provides the best sunlight and the run-off of any excess water.

The other originality of this terroir is how the area is divided up, there are no less than 260,000 parcels of land. They can be seen as gardens that the growers tend with incredible care and attention so that they express their individuality. Each piece of land has been recognised and has had a specific name for centuries: ‘les Côtes à Bras’, ‘les Gouttes d’Or’ .......

The House of Pierrel’s private vineyards are located around the town of Epernay and the famous ‘Côte des Blancs’, while Bernard Brémont’s grapes are grown exclusively on the south-east slope of the ‘Mount of Rheims’ in the villages of Ambonnay and Bouzy, thus allowing his Champagnes to bear the exclusive label ‘Grand Cru’.

The House of Bernard Brémont is a family vineyard of 15 hectares, situated within the communes of Ambonnay (98%) and of Bouzy (2%), on the south-east of the Mountain of Rheims. Both Ambonnay and Bouzy are part of "crème de la crème" of the Champagne marque, of which only 17 out of more than 300 communes have been classified as 100% Grand Cru. The high quality soil planted maily with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes combined with the top expertise of Bernard Brémont himself undoubtedly results in the best of Champagnes.

As this is a small family Champagne House, the Champagnes, which are extremely popular, are not available in unlimited quantities , although we do have substantial stock to hand. Customers are advised not to delay in placing orders.

The quality of the Pierrel's Champagnes is the all important overrriding thread that runs through the entire range. A huge amount of the attention is paid to the quality of the Champagnes, and not just the presentation of the bottles. The House of Pierrel is supplied by a co-operative of vineyards which harnesses generations of experience, ability and ambition.

The Champagnes are all produced with the first grapes grown in Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, coming mostly from the prestigious Côte des Blancs, famous for its Chardonnay. All of the Champagnes are aged many years in the cellars for more than the minimum allowed. The Brut "Les Traditions" Noirs & Blancs Champagne is cellar aged for three years when the minimum authorised is fifteen months!

Champagne is the only wine that leaves a woman beautiful after drinking it.”
